Designing A New Era for the British Monarchy – Sir William Chambers – Part II
The Axel och Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation together with the Ax:son Johnson Centre for the Study of Classical Architecture welcome you to the seminar Sir William Chambers: A Tercentenary Celebration. Marking the baptism of Chambers in Gothenburg in 1723, the seminar will cast a 21st-century perspective on one of the most powerful architects in Georgian Britain. The time is ripe for a reassessment of an architect whose international identity and global view of architecture speak particularly well to the present. During the seminar questions will be asked about how Chambers articulated an idea of ‘civility’ in architecture, the ways his work responded to an age of political upheaval, and the principles that guided him as he designed structures that embodied and facilitated a new era of global exploration and discovery.
