Mental Health – Rhodri Hayward: The Evolution of Human Emotions
Are we in control of our emotions? And can mental health discourse help us address societal inequalities? In this Engelsberg Interview, historian Rhodri Hayward explores the relationship between mental health, emotions, and society.
We discuss the historical role of psychiatry in the legal system, the massive rise in the rate of depression, and the ways in which emotions shape – and are shaped by – the world around us.
Rhodri Hayward is a Reader in History at Queen Mary University of London and a co-editor of the History of the Human Sciences journal. His research has received numerous grants from the Wellcome Trust, particularly for projects exploring the relationship between psychiatry and primary care, as well as psychiatric epidemiology.
This Engelsberg Interview is led by Patrik Hadenius, linguist, publicist, and former Publishing Director at Norstedts Förlagsgrupp.
