Zoroastrianism is one of the world’s oldest monotheistic faiths. Ali Ansari, Professor of Iranian History and founding director of the Institute for Iranian Studies at the University of St Andrews, explores its origins in ancient Persia. He discusses the challenges of reconstructing Zoroastrian rituals and beliefs from fragmentary sources and traces the religion’s influence on later civilisations.
The interview is conducted by author and editor Paul Lay, and was recorded as part of a three-day seminar on the history of the Middle East titled Empires of Faith.
